UPDATE: Cow Poop Creek elevated walkway is out.

Thanks to our awesome volunteers, this walkway has been restored to like new condition!
The elevated walkway (between marker 5 & 6) that was over the creek affectionately known as "Cow Poop Creek" was taken out by the water from the storm on Sunday morning 9/19/2010. There are also multiple trees down and some other erosion caused by the rain. Please be careful if you are out on the trails as there may be other unseen issues that have not been addressed yet. The SMV Trail Crew volunteers will be working on fixing the damaged walkway and removing trees as soon as possible.

Unauthorized Trail Work

The Pulpit trail is one of the more difficult (black diamond) trails at Smithville lake. We do not have a lot of technical features at Smithville so the few we have are very important to maintain the "dignity" of the trails. Someone keeps modifying the rock stairs that you cross over on the Pulpit trail (removing the lower step, creating a ride around).
Yes, this is a bit of a challenge to ride over, but it is supposed to be! If you can not ride the step, keep practicing, you will get it. If you are too nervous to try, get off and walk, that's okay too. But please do NOT modify the trail and "dumb it down", we like to have a little challenge out there!

I am hopeful that I am just preaching to the choir here and it is actually not a person that frequents this blog. Unauthorized modifications to any trail can be considered vandalism so PLEASE don't do it. If you feel something is dangerous (yes, riding a mountain bike, on or off road, is an inherently dangerous activity!), PLEASE This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it the local trail manager. We take great pride in our trails and have a VERY dedicated group of volunteers that put in hundreds of hours every year to offer you a quality riding, running or hiking experience! Please help us out by not modifying the trails.

Humpday Ride Continues to Grow!

SpiderFest Success!

Thank you to all that came out to support ERTA at this year's SpiderFest. Despite the storms that dumped 3" of rain on the trails the day before our event, keeping us from riding and running singletrack, we still had a great turn out. The food was top notch and the raffle raised nearly $5000 for ERTA to use towards it's efforts in building and maintaining sustainable singletrack in the KC metro!
